Clitheroe Chamber of Trade & Commerce has once again decorated the town with Union Jack flags to commemorate the Royal Wedding Celebrations. The flags will be punctuated by the St George Cross flags to celebrate St Georges Day on Saturday 23rd April. The Chamber is collecting from the town centre businesses £10 per St George’s Day flag for MacMillan Nurses on behalf of Ribble Valley Glass who have kindly donated their time in erecting the flags.

Members have all been talking about the Royal Wedding weekend and how it’s helping to create a great atmosphere. Many shops and businesses will join in the spirit of the occasion with themed red, white and blue window displays.

At the end of May, Clitheroe will be festooned with around 1,500 metres of bunting along Moor Lane, Castle Street, Market Place, Wellgate and King Street.

Ian Lloyd, President of Clitheroe Chamber of Trade & Commerce said he was pleased with all the efforts. He said: “The bunting is going to add to the atmosphere and help create even more excitement. I’ve personally been impressed by positive feedback from the presence of the flags it has brought the community together – both businesses and residents. It’s always a big team effort for us all to get this organised.”

Bunting will be erected on Sunday 22 May – if you can offer any help please contact Clitheroe Chamber of Trade & Commerce. www.clitheroeinbusiness.co.uk

The Chamber hopes the bunting creates a lot of colour and helps get people in a summer mood.

For those members who attended the Annual Presidential Dinner and Ball at The Stirk House Hotel on Saturday 5th February, thank you for your support. For those members who were unable to attend you missed what can only be described as one of the best dinner dances I’ve been to in a long time.

Our grateful thanks go to Jo and Kelly from Amelia’s Brides in Moor Lane for their sterling efforts in organising a super evening celebrating The Chamber’s success over the last 12 months. Thanks also go to Andrew Hale Photography and Janet for taking photos and group shots of the evening to be forwarded to the press and Lancashire Life.

The event was attended by over 130 members and guests of The Chamber including the Mayor of The Ribble Valley, the Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament for The Ribble Valley, the Mayor of Clitheroe and the Leader of the Council.

We will shortly be able to confirm that a considerable sum was raised on the evening from a raffle and fund raising events which will be divided between The Chambers promotions and the President’s nominated charity, The Sanctuary at Langho.

Whilst writing may I remind all remembers that the 84th Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 8th March in the Ballroom at the newly re-opened Swan and Royal Hotel.

Nominations are being sought for President, Vice-President and two new members for the Executive Committee. A new era has dawned for Clitheroe Chamber of Trade and Commerce and with over 100 new members in the last 12 months, The Chamber grows from strength to strength. More than ever we need your support and input as the deadline for nominations comes nearer.Voting papers along with a copy of the Constitution, list of members, current Executive and Initiative Groups are available on request.

Once again thank you so much for your support on Saturday evening and over the last 12 months and I look forward to seeing you soon.

IAN S LLOYD
PRESIDENT
CLITHEROE CHAMBER OF TRADE AND COMMERCE
